Vehicle Description 1967 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle SS396 Tribute The 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle received a slight facelift compared to the '66 Chevelle, including less angular headlight surrounds and a larger bumper cutout beneath the grille. The Chevelle continued to be offered in three trims - 300, 300 Deluxe and Malibu. The 300 and 300 Deluxe were offered as a two door sedan, four door sedan and four door wagon. The Malibu offered plenty of different body styles, including two door wagon, four door sedan, sport coupe, convertible, and four door sport sedan. The hottest Chevelle was still offered as the SS396, but the L34 engine's output fell from 360 hp to 350 hp. Hagerty.com For consignment, a 1967 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle SS396 showing 21,634 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a PA title exemption. This one rings the bell with a period correct 396ci V8 and arresting red color. Exterior Named for a Spanish dance, Bolero Red now covers the sport coupe in a two stage application and like that dance, it's bright and lively. The clean, black latch panel with its SS insignia dead center between pointed tail lights exemplifies an epic muscle car rear end. Up front, hood bulges house ornamental vents and the fascia shape mirrors that of the rear, this time with quad round headlights amongst horizontal bars of the grille. 15-inch red steel wheels with Chevrolet hubcaps are wrapped in staggered size tires with a mid 2020 date code. Stainless window reveals and rocker panel trim offer some nice accenting. The paint and trim are excellent on the car with a few imperfections noted, a few minor paint inclusions, a chip on the A-pillar, a few bubbles on the door, corner chips and bubbling on the passenger door, and a few light scuffs.  Interior Nice red vinyl panels adorn the doors with typical period design and modest ornamentation which is essentially mirrored on the low bucket front seats and rear bench in grain vinyl and all presenting well with some slight wear on the driver's entry point and piping. A black rimmed, three spoke steering wheel fronts the dash where instruments reside in horizontal layout. An added tach is the left and AM/FM radio that lives in the ribbed metal mid panel over the vent levers and added twin pack of gauges, all below a woodgrain accent that spans the width of the dash. A center console holds a clock and a canted shifter with white ball handle. Black loop carpet floods the floor and a red headliner rises above while in the trunk, a fitted and trimmed black carpet piece completes our tour of this spotless and show worthy interior space. Drivetrain No fear of opening the hood at shows either as a clean, period correct 396ci V8 awaits, complete with Edelbrock intake and 4-barrel carburetor, headers, and shiny chrome Moroso valve covers. It's mated to a Muncie M21 from 1970, and the 4-speed manual sends power to the 12 bolt rear axle where our consignor states Positraction resides. Power brakes and power steering are on board. Undercarriage The dual exhaust comes from the headers, gets heat wrapped before entering a pair of FlowMaster mufflers and exiting discreetly in the back. Brakes are set as front disc and rear drum, power assisted, and suspension entails coil springs front and rear with a 4 link and traction bars helping out in back. The undercarriage presents as clean, dry, and grease free. Drive-Ability As expected, this clean machine runs and drives well, providing plenty of power and good grip on the test loop, all while looking and sounding good doing it! No complaints here and other than the dash and console clocks not working, all items on this tribute work as expected. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. The SS badging is merely icing on this cake. This is one clean sport coupe that is going to provide the next owner w |
